A talk at Phys. Tokyo UNIV:Agenda

Japanese version
On December 11 at the department of Physics of Tokyo UNIV. I gave a little talk about "Zeta Function and Correlation Function." Although this seminar is informal, I was allowed to perform a talk about 3 hours and introduce to young students some references. Eight persons heard my talk including two of my friends. Since young student were main partners, I said my opinion "algebra geometry and arithmetic geometry are important for physics (mathematical physics)."
Although the contents thought "the Zeta function and statistical mechanics" on October 23, since they were unlikely to suit the very younger students even if it did "muscle training of physics and mathematics," on the previous day, I decide that I would talk about references on Math. and Phys. for introduction, and created agenda hurriedly at the beginning.
("The muscle training of physical mathematics" has referred to the introduction of a Jordan canonical form, arithmetic functions, and analytic number theory, classical statistical mechanics, quantum statistical mechanics, and random walk, which I had said in the seminar "the Zeta function and statistical mechanics".)

Some Lecture notes by Dr. Sarnak

Japanese version
Mr. Woit's blog was introduced ignited by Dr. Witten's lecture at IAS for general: "Knots and Quantum Theory." About physics and arithmetic, Dr. Witten might say that there would be a bridge between Number Theory and Physics. Of course, the keyword is Langlands. The magazine "arithmetic and physics" (I'm forgotten the formal name of English journal) is started, and the first publication and the leadoff article are Witten-Kapustin. Indeed!

Dr. Sarnak's lecture note contains Selberg 1/4 conjecture, general Ramanujan anticipation, etc. about which are argued on Woit's Blog.report. The following lecture notes by Dr. Sarnak are not familiar in Japan.

1,"Arinthmetic Quantum Chaos"

2,"Selberg eigenvalue problems"

3,"The generalized Ramanujan conjecture"

4,"Spectra of hyperbolic surfaces"

the above item 4 had not come out in Woit's BLOG but I think it is a very interesting and exiting note and let me it join to others. It is pointing the direction of "physics and arithmetic." Its contents are:

1,Introduction
2,Existence
3,High Energy Spectrum
4,Low Energy Spectrum

In 2004 Dr. Sarnak published a article about Riemann Hypothesis on Claymath Instiute.
Problems of the Millennium: The Riemann Hypothesis (2004)

Japanese version
In October 28, 2011 E.Witten gave the lecture for general "Knot and Quantum Theory." Although backgrounds are Khovanov homology and quantum field theory, the talk included Langlands crrespondence (in usual in Number Theory), and they have taken the attention by some BLOG, which he might think in mind on the relations between physics and number theory. I complete to translate almost of Woit's BLOG with comments into Japanese and post it. The argument still continues.

The appendix of "Stefan Boltzmann law"

Japanese version
The special value of the Zeta function is important for the law of Planck, and the same thing is important also for the law (the energy distribution of black body radiation is proportional to the 4-th power of absolute temperature) of Boltzmann. From the formula of Planck, the law of Boltzmann can be drawn and it is in agreement with the observed value in experiments.

The Zeta function appears similarly in these derivation processes, this is indicated as the appendix of the article "Stefan Boltzmann law" in en.Wikipedia in English. Since there was no description of them in Japanese version, I translate it into Japanese.
The original article:

The appendix of "Planck's law"

Japanese version
In 1900, M. Planck pointed out the breakdown of classical electrodynamics. That is because the energy density per unit volume becomes infinite and is not in agreement with an experiment in classical electrodynamics. The formula that on the other hand the energy distribution of the spectrum radiation luminosity of the electromagnetic waves radiated from the black body called the law of Planck becomes limited from the thermodynamic view submitted by Boltzmann is drawn. This was taken over to the light(energy)-quantum theory of Einstein on the assumption that e=hv, and it paved the way for quantum mechanics. In calculation of this energy density, the fact which is a limited value which the special value of the Zeta function of Riemann can calculate appears.

Although there is a statement of a method which uses the special value of a Riemann Zeta function for the supplement of the item of "the law of Plank" of Japanese wikipedia, since this is not indicated to an English-language edition, it translates into English.

22 Jun. and 1st Jul Dr. E.Verlinde gave the lectures titled "The Hidden Phase Space of Our Universe" at Perimeter inst. and Uppsala. I have found another article concering to the E. Verlinde's arguments in physicsforums.com. The title of that article is "Relation between Verlinde's Entropic gravity and AdS/CFT," which is under Physics Forums > Physics > Beyond the Standard Model as same as the previous article "CDM/MOND duality through Holography."

Because I had firstly looked at the comments by E. Verlinde himself about his first paper not on his own home page but on Mr. Lubos Motl's blog. At that time, seemingly they have the same opinion, but gradually, I feel that they differ each other when seeing well. One of difference is the interpretation of the diagonal entries of open strings as the following article.

In the artice there are some quotes between Mr. Mitchell Porter and Lubos Motl. I search the original, but I cannot find the original. Well, it is natural that there are the different opinions in this area.

Perhaps, One of the oldest approach is the Mertens conjecture. In 1885 Mr. Stieltjes propose the conjecture. But now it is thought that the Mertens conjecture might be wrong. However, this approach relate Brownian movement with Riemann zeta and it is thought to be very important and fundamental.

Riemann zeta function and Functional Equation (IX)

I described in this article that the Mertens conjecture is important and Erdos-Kac limit formula relates statistic dynamics with Riemann zeta function.

Riemann zeta Function and Functional Equation VIII

This article contains the relation between statistic dynamics and Riemann zeta but there might be another approach. Indeed the next paper is very impressive for me.

Physics and the Riemann Hypothesis (arxiv:1101.3116)

But I do not know the reason why there are no references of Knauf in the above paper, which is one of my motivation.

And KMS_\beta, namely the relation between thermodynamics and Riemann zeta, proposed by A. Connes and his collaborators might be shown to be equivalent to them.

On Monstrous Moonshine and Mirror Symmetry

Japanese version
I would like to mention some comment for the article "Monstrous Moonshine and Mirror Symmetry I and II" witten by Professor Helena Verrill. Two crucial points are i) Ogg's Theorem and ii) mirror map can be defined by Picard-Fuchs equation. And they are related to elliptic curves.

Japanese version
14 Jun. on L. Motl's blog an article titled "D0 rejects CDF's claim on top-antitop mass difference, too" was posted. I translated a little carefully into Japanese.

It said that there no dump such as CDF in D0 data and moreover, it rejects the difference of mass between top and anti-top quarks, which is closely related to the CPT-symmetry.

General Relativity and Black Holes II

Japanese version
It is simply described on the classification by mass, angular momentum and charge, Ciama's formula, and 2+1 dimensional black holes. In 2+1 dimensional it contains the work of Brown and Henneaux, Cardy formula, and BTZ black holes. Why are 2+1 dimensional black holes important? Because they are very much resemble to 3+1 dimensional ones, in our universe.

Of course Mr. Witten had published "2+1 Dimensional Gravity as an Exactly Solvable System" in 1988, by which he won the Fields prize. Mahler’s measure, hyperbolic geometry and the dilogarithm

Japanse version
Dr. David Boyd was a professor of Number Theory at British Columbia UNIV. for a long time. I had recently known his retirement. About 9 years ago I read his article on a journal and write it 1page as "shakyoh," which means copying the bible of Buddhism in Japan. After his retirement I knew the article remained on the net. And, the full text was able to be acquired. There is Nunber Theory to run freely about three fields of mathematics of algebra, geometry, and the analysis. I translated into the full text Japanese and to post it on my BLOG. It is fortunate if becoming a part of the motive of a young person.

What is Langlands Programme?

Japanese version

1、I have translated the description on the black board at the lecture "Knots and Quantum Theory" by E. Witten in Nov 2011.

"Knots and Quantum Theory"

The original lecture for the general audience is contained in the clicked page.

The Langlands correspondence is used in the meaning "Geometric Langlands" in Physics. As well known, it has an original in the number theory, class field theory. But I imagine they should have the common part, but of course it is not a established result.

3 years ago Witten published a article on arxiv titled "Mirror Symmetry, Hitchin's Equations, And Langlands Duality," which seems for me to explain to mathematicians about them. It is the most interesting for me and I had translated into Japanese as soon as published.

Mirror Symmetry, Hitchin's Equations, And Langlands Duality (translation)
