Japanese version
In 7 May. 2007 Mr. Lubos Motl had posted an article "Monstrous symmetry of black holes: beauty and the beast" on his BLOG. I translated it into Japanese. It is related to the article of Mr. Woit titled "Witten on 2+1 Dimensional Gravity," and of course closely related to the Witten's paper, "Three-Dimensional Gravity Revisited."

I received thousands of requests from the people in the Fukushima region who wanted to understand my 2007 text about the monstrous moonshine in string theory more intimately. So I have finally learned Japanese today and translated the article to the Fukushima dialect of Japanese. Enjoy and don't get discouraged by the obscene words on the first line beneath the title! ;-)

The distance to Fukushima from Tokyo is as long as the distance to Berlin or to Vienna from Prague. Japan is long like a string though tiny. I think it cannot be compactified. Perhaps, the edge from the edge of Japan is further than Moscow from Prague. Fukushima now turns to be more popular than Tokyo in the world. Why? Earth quake, Tsunami, and Accident of nuclear…
I have enjoyed your blog since about 2004. Recently, a lot of people enjoy the articles by Mr. Phil Gibbs (your guest) “Four reasons why I like string theory,” that I had translated into Japanese. What does the example of frogs mean? Please give my best regards to Mr. Phil Gibbs.
And "Rumor of Higgs" is rather popular. But at once I neglected it with some reasons on my BLOG.
Of course, your article on monstrous symmetry of Black Holes in 3 D is very interesting . Where modularity come from? Witten’s paper points out the mysterious relation between B.H. and monstrous symmetry via moduli of elliptic curves. Is it a new idea? Yes, but a pioneer is “Beauty and The Beast.” On your paper arXiv:gr-qc/0212096v3 Immirzi parameter is argued in this context. Interesting!
I hope that the story of the gravity of 3D might be connected with “5-branes and Khovanov homology.”

For me, Fukushima is more popular than Tokyo because Tokyo is just a big city while Fukushima is a symbol of human creativity and technological invention that struggles for progress even when circumstances are not optimal.
Most early comment by me is the following in Japanese.
ReplyDelete1, I should previously describe BTZ black holes, and so these stories of 3 Dimensional gravity would be more explained well. The evaluation of the ground state of BTZ black hole must be essential. Let me arrange the note, and post it later.
2, The correspondence of Monstrous moonshine with the black hole of three dimensions are attractive via j-funcsions (J-functions). I should explain the connections to the works of Brown-Henneaux and the discussion by Carlip. I will also arranges them on my note.
3, Where is the emergence of modularity coming from? It seems for me very important. Perhaps, when a holographic principle is introduced and there is CFT on the boundary, then modularity turns out to emerge.
4, Is there a relation to these theory of 3D gravity related to the recent “5branes and the Khovanov homology” of Dr. Witten?
In StringMath 2011 Mirinda Cheng proposed "M24 K3 String Theory and the Holographic Moonshine."
ReplyDeleteThough I didn't know her name and didn't understand her talk in detail I think her talk is very clear on M24 Moonshine phenomena and the relation to AdS/CFT.
This talk is one direction for the research of Moonshine phenomena from the physical point of view.
